Terms
Terms of Service
Last updated: April 20, 2026
These terms describe what you can expect from The Family Record and what we expect from you. We've kept them clear on purpose.
Who you're contracting with
The Family Record is provided by Meridian Capital Stewardship Inc. ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you're using the service on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you have authority to bind it.
You must be of legal age in your country to use The Family Record.
What we provide
A private, organised record of the information your loved ones would need — documents, accounts, contacts, wishes, and first-step guidance — together with tools to print, export, and selectively share it.
Your account
Keep your sign-in details confidential. You're responsible for activity under your account. Tell us at hello@familyrecord.ca if you suspect unauthorised access.
Please keep your information accurate. The value of the record depends on it.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service unlawfully or to harm others.
- Upload content you don't have the right to use.
- Send malware, attempt to breach security, or probe, scan, or scrape the service.
- Resell, redistribute, or build a competing product on top of the service.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or circumvent technical limits.
Your content
The information and files you put into your record remain yours. You grant us a limited licence to host, store, encrypt, transmit, and display that content solely to provide the service to you and to the people you choose to share it with.
Our intellectual property
The The Family Record service — including its software, design, templates, prompts, and branding — belongs to us. Using the service doesn't transfer any of that to you.
Payments and refunds
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns.
Payment, billing, tax, cancellation, and refund mechanics are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. See our Refund Policy for our 30-day money-back guarantee.
Service availability
We work hard to keep the service running smoothly, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free performance. We may make changes, improvements, or — with reasonable notice — retire features.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate access if you materially breach these terms, fail to pay, or pose a security or fraud risk. You may close your account at any time from Account → Delete account. On termination, we will delete your data as described in the Privacy Notice.
Disclaimers
The Family Record is a personal organisation tool. It does not constitute legal, financial, medical, or tax advice. Where decisions have legal or financial consequences, please consult a qualified professional. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability under these terms is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages including loss of profits, data, or goodwill. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for fraud, death, or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Your indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your content, your use of the service in violation of these terms, or your unlawful conduct.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ontario, except where mandatory local law gives you the right to bring proceedings elsewhere.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. If changes are material, we'll notify you by email or in the app. Continued use of the service after changes means you accept the updated terms.
